Legal requirements

To legally purchase a silencer from Shooters of Columbus, you must be at least 21 years of age, a resident of the United States and the State of Georgia, and have no felony record. The first step is to come into Shooters of Columbus, purchase a product we have in stock, or place an order for the silencer you wish.

We currently carry silencers manufactured by AAC, GemTech, Surefire, Silencerco, Yankee Hill, C3 Defense and Tactical Solutions.

Purchase Process - Individual

After the silencer is purchased, we will prepare duplicate ATF Form 4's (this generally takes a day) and provide them to you, with fingerprint cards and a citizenship certification form.. The Form 4's must be filled out on both sides, with passport photos of you affixed to the backside of the form. You will then have the Chief Law-Enforcement officer (usually the Sheriff in the county you reside in) sign the rear of the Form 4's, attesting to your clean record. The two fingerprint cards must be completed and signed by the Sheriff’s office. The citizenship certification sheet that is filled out AND signed by you. We will provide you with a complete instruction sheet to assist you in completing this process.

You then send the completed paperwork to the Department of the Treasury with a check or money order for $200.00. Checks are best, because you can determine exactly when ATF has cashed your check and started your paperwork. Once the paper work is submitted, it currently takes about 6 months to receive the approved, stamped paperwork from the NFA Branch. Once NFA branch forwards the approved form 4 to Shooters of Columbus, you can take possession of your new suppressor.

Purchase Process - Trust or Corporations

The process is similar to the process for an individual, except:

  • there is no Law enforcement signoff required
  • no passport photos are required
  • no citizenship certification is required

Processing time is no different, and you must establish a trust or corporation first, which generally requires an attorney.
